As the erosion of democracy becomes increasingly recognised as a global challenge, it is important to understand the nature of this threat.

In their recent paper, Jerfi Uzman (of UvA’s platform for Democratic Resilience) and Marleen Kappé focus on the relationship between populism and democratic resilience. In particular, by exploring the interaction between populism and constitutional conventions, they highlight the specific threat that populism poses to democracy's reliance on unwritten constitutional law and practice.
